Located just a few hundred meters from Major Avenue Ratchayothin on Ratchadapisek Road is the newly-launched Two Forty Eight Café and Bar.

Based on the first floor of the Northgate Ratchadyothin Serviced Residence, the eatery features a modern yet classic décor, as well as a nice, relaxing ambiance.

Diners can choose to occupy a table in the air conditioned indoor area, or head outside for an al fresco dining experience. Once night begins to fall, the indoor dining area is bathed in a turquoise glow, which provides a mellow setting that's incredibly relaxing after a busy day at work.

The restaurant has an extensive list of wines, beers and liquor, while the talented bartenders are able to produce an impressive array of 'mocktails' by combining herbs, fruits and soda into some truly delightful concoctions.

Selection Dilemmas
The restaurant offers a menu that includes both international cuisine and local specialties under the supervision of an executive chef who boasts years of experience in leading five-star hotels.

Among the appetizers available are deep fried chicken wings marinated with Thai herbs, Mexican nachos with cheese and salsa and baked spinach with mozzarella cheese.

There is also plenty of choice when it comes to tapas. For a sample, order three at 120 baht (US$4), or, if you find them particularly enticing, you can opt for five (180 baht) or seven (240 baht).

Italian Classics
There are also lots of choices for pasta lovers, such as Pasta Seafood with white wine and tomato sauce (see photo, left). The portions here tend to be generous and this particular dish comes chock full of delicious seafood. Other interesting pasta-based dishes include Pasta Anchovies, which is served with a tomato sauce, black olives and capers, as well as Pasta Agro, which features bacon, olive oil and dried chili.

Pan-fried Norwegian Salmon fillet with ricotta mashed potato and saffron sauce (see photo, below) provides another delightful choice for seafood lovers. The rich creamy mashed potatoes provide a sensual culinary pleasure that combines perfectly with the fresh salmon.

Recommended dishes for meat-lovers include the baby BBQ pork spare ribs, grilled Australian beef tenderloin and braised duck legs in red wine.

To satisfy a sweet tooth, there's also a list of homemade ice-cream for you to choose from, while the dessert menu includes vanilla crème brule, homemade strawberry yoghurt mousse and vanilla panna cotta.

The restaurant's menu includes several cut price 'specials', such as a lunch set (159 baht ++), sandwiches and burgers, fried rice specialties, fusion noodle dishes and dishes that are suitable for vegetarians and kids. Two Forty Eight Café and Bar's international breakfast buffet (180 baht ++) is available to guests staying at Northgate Ratchayothin Serviced Residence, as well as members of the public during 6.30-10 am.

Two Forty Eight Café and Bar also has an area located on the building's second floor, which is equipped with a projector and karaoke equipment. This is ideal for a private party or business function.

Prices for main course dishes range from 120-590 baht. The restaurant opens daily from 6.30 am-11 pm.
