New London - John Russell, well known for Russell's Ribs in Groton which he sold seven years ago, is back in the restaurant business.

At least he has shaken hands on it.

Russell, a New London City Councilor, said Friday that come the first of the year, he'll own Louie's bar and grill at 119 Broad St.

"I was looking for something,'' said Russell, who for the past seven years has been doing "pro bono" work in the community. "I'm out of money. I need a job."

He said he shook hands with Louie's owner Lou Greco earlier this week. He said his partner in the new restaurant will be Andrea Gorgeous, a former employee of Russell's Ribs, who now works at Louie's. The workers and the menus will remain the same, he said, including a much loved lobster bisque.

Eventually, Russell said, he'd like to brighten up the inside and offer family events.

"I'm very excited. I want it to be a type of place to bring in the family to eat,'' he said. "I want it to be a nice neighborhood restaurant bar type of thing; a comfortable place."
