Gerry Andal143A4700 galloped out of Stanwood.

Yes, the singing Gerry Andal.

His restaurant at 27021 102nd Ave. NW closed Sunday.

He gave the business a good go, with special features. He sang to seniors at 2 p.m. every Wednesday.

He sent out a note about the closure, saying he sincerely enjoyed his 19 months of doing business in a great community. He made a lot of new friends, and while he will miss serving Stanwood and Camano Island, he hopes everyone will try to do as much as they can in these tough times to support all the local business that are still hanging in there.

It was nice seeing Snohomish County well represented at the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade at Seafair in Seattle on Saturday night.

Though many floats featured dancing princesses, when the Strawberry Festival float came along, the royalty onboard, including Queen Kaija Wilcox, could truly dance to the beat. The float received a Seafair Community Spirit Award.

And the Tulalip Resort Casino float, with shiny, spinning dice, won the Animation Award for Best Use of Animation, presented by Sickelsteel Crane.

They are hoping for good weather Tuesday in Marysville.

It's the annual City of Marysville Senior Picnic Barbecue.

Last year, the Comeford Park event drew 320 diners, said Maryke Burgess, manager of the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center in Marysville.

The city provides all the food for $3 per person. Registration is closed for this year.

Harry and Miko Winder will provide the salmon.

Jim Ballew, the parks director who is a fantastic cook, will man the barbecue.

"The seniors love his secret recipe," Burgess said.
