Restaurant week starts Monday, and it's an exciting time for some of Charlottesville's top restaurants.

The chefs at Charlottesville's Maya restaurant whisk sauces flip French toast and fry up bacon for Sunday brunch. Now, they have seven days of serious cuisine ahead of them. Owner of Maya Peter Castiglione said, "It's good for us. It brings a lot of people through the door on a week when we would normally be slow."

The Pointe at the Omni is ready for another year of restaurant week success. Manager of The Pointe Restaurant Chris Straker said, "It definitely brought in a lot more customers than normal. We have a really nice menu we're really proud of, and we hope everyone comes down and joins us."

However, this week is not just about serving good food, but it's about teaching kids to eat healthy. Part of the week's profits goes to the PB&J Fund, which is a non-profit that teaches children to make healthier eating choices.

Straker said, "Not only do you get to experience great restaurants, but you get to help a charity as well."

Castiglione said, "It's one thing to come out here an work hard to make your money, to earn a living, but to help other people out in these organizations is a good thing."

Twenty restaurants are taking part in restaurant week to give customers a taste of their menus for a good cause at a good price. The last restaurant week raised about $10,000 for the Blue Ridge area food bank.

Maya is also going to be selling homemade dog biscuits at the restaurant this week to benefit Howls, which is a charity that builds canine shelters.
